We sell Homalothecium sericeum as a grown moss in many dimensions or as inoculated clay/Alfisols discs with spores and mother moss, we also sell the correct "Growing Substrate" for this moss.

- Hessian cloth for extra use which can be stapled to a tree! Or glued to wall with out hurting the roots! this allows the moss time to grow over its hessian cloth and new growth will attach naturally. Hessian cloth is biodegradable.
- Plastic mesh for interior use, terrariums living walls and moss art, the plastic mesh can be glued to glass or rock, or any supports, without hurting the mosses roots. And hey presto! you have an instant moss wall!

Our clay/Alfisols discs are inoculated with Homalothecium sericeum spores and mother plant which, once wet, will grow after 3 weeks into moss that then connect together into a carpet and spread from there. The benefit of growing from spores is 1- they grow and thrive in the environment, if terrarium or moss garden, or water feature 2- the clay/Alfisols discs can be molded into any shape once wet and will stick to any surface. You can also divide the discs as they are inoculated with thousands of spores.

H. sericeum grows on hard surfaces, both on rocks and tree bark. It favours base-rich rocks and may be abundant on limestone walls and crags.
It is also common on trees with base-rich bark, e.g. ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and elder (Sambucus nigra), preferring the trunks and larger branches.
It is also widespread on brick walls, concrete and other man-made structures.

The green or golden green main shoots grow closely appressed to the substrate, sometimes reaching 7-10 centimetres in length or longer.
They have short (less than 1 cm), crowded side branches that curve upwards and inwards when dry, with leaves closely appressed.
On wetting, the branches rapidly straighten and the leaves spread outwards.
Leaves are 2.5–3 mm long, strongly pleated, narrowly spearhead-shaped, widest at the base, and taper evenly to a finely pointed tip.
The margins are weakly toothed. Capsules are fairly frequent, 2–3 mm long, straight and cylindrical.

This is a beautiful silky and suave moss, with a plush and rich Green-gold color which will grab your eye, and it is so silky soft to the touch.

You will be able to any this to your moss garden on your rocks or wood. Mix it up and have fun!! put it on damp wood, old stumps, and it's a real piece of living art. just have to place the moss on the substrate of your choice and spray it until it has absorbed enough water, after 2 weeks it will have grown on to the substrate. If you are putting on an upright surface then I surgest first allowing it to grow on to the surface before turning it up right. It is also a good idea to put the substrate with the moss in a plastic bag after spraying with water for two weeks before adding it to your terrarium.
